What is “Traffic”?

Everyone is familiar with “Road Traffic”. Word “Traffic” is taken from an Arabic Word “Taraffaqa”, it means to walk along slowly.

Traffic may contains on pedestrians, ridden animals, vehicles and other conveyances. Traffic rules or laws help us to govern traffics and regulate vehicles while on the road. Worldwide traffic is organized with junctions, intersection, lanes, interchanges, traffic signals and signs. By word ‘Traffic’, we often have a clear picture in mind that there would be light and heavy motor vehicles (Car, Truck), motor bikes/bicycles and pedestrian on the road.

By the time human being invented new conveyance for traveling, it become the need to develop rules for smooth running of traffic flow on the roads. These rules are very useful for all road users. Follow the traffic rules save lives and vehicles of all road users. Traffic rules also create interactions between vehicle holders and pedestrians.

History of Present “Traffic Rules”

Basic traffics rules were defined by an international treaty under the authority of the United Nations, in 1968 Vienna convention on Road Traffic. All member countries did not sign on this documents but majority accepted it. Countries which have signed, they have some local variations in practice within their countries. There are many unwritten traffic rules in every country which are understood by local drivers. A general understood rule is expected to avoid a collision with another vehicle or pedestrian using the road. Another general rule is to obey all traffic lights and signs in every part of the World.

Rules for the road or traffic rules are defined in many countries.
